All-new Kia Pegas redefines practicality, quality

Al Attiya Motors & Trading Co. (AMTC), the authorised distributor for Kia Motors in Qatar, recently launched the All-New Kia Pegas at an exclusive and intimate event held at the Kia City Showroom in Industrial Area.  The audience consisted of members of the press and hand-picked prestigious guests all of whom were suitably impressed by the practicality, value and quality of the Pegas.

The Pegas offers buyers in this class a uniquely stylish design, with sculpted body panels and bold character lines complemented by a striking colour palette and a carefully-balanced sedan silhouette. The aerodynamic front of the Pegas, with a drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd, presents a bold ‘face’ to the world. Its deep bumpers incorporate sporty air curtain intakes in each corner and a large trapezoidal air intake. The wide ‘tiger-nose’ grille extends into the headlamps, enhancing the sense of width and stability.

The All-New Kia Pegas has been introduced into Qatar in order to fill in the B-segment bracket of a practical, low maintenance cost and high-value sedan that focuses on comfort and quality. Viewed from the side, the profile of the Pegas gives it a finely-balanced silhouette. Its definitive character lines give the impression of motion, even while it sits stationary. The relatively long wheelbase and sloping tailgate visually enhance the length of the Pegas.

The rear of the car is characterised by its sedan tailgate, with a subtle yet sporty ducktail profile to the trailing edge of the trunk lid and a pair of neat rear combination lamps. The full option features 14-inch allow wheels with a practical and pleasing spoke design.

Speaking at the exclusive and intimate launch, CRM & Marketing Manager, Isam El-Bashier stated: “We are confident that the All-New Kia Pegas is going to prove to be the most practical, high-value and low ownership cost car in its segment and will ensure peace of mind and profitability for its owners.”

The cabin of the Pegas offers occupants maximum space and convenience. The centre fascia has been designed to enhance ease-of-use, with many of the car’s functions controlled with clear, ergonomic buttons. Additionally, the centre console provides plenty of storage space to enhance usability, with built-in cup holders that can be reached from the front and rear of the cabin.

Nissan boss to step down amid pay scandal

Nissan boss to step down amid pay scandal

Nissan chief executive Hiroto Saikawa will step down next week as the carmaker grapples with an executive pay scandal.

The announcement followed a meeting of the carmaker's board on Monday.

Earlier, Mr Saikawa told Japanese media he was "keen to pass the torch" when asked if he was preparing to resign.

The Nissan boss had come under pressure after saying he had been overpaid as part of a bonus scheme. However, he denied wrongdoing.

Board chairman Yasushi Kimura told reporters that Mr Saikawa would quit on 16 September.

"After the board discussion, the board asked Mr Saikawa to step down from the chief executive position. Mr Saikawa accepted this," Mr Kimura said.

Nissan said it hoped to find a replacement by the end of next month. Chief operating officer Yasuhiro Yamauchi will take on the role temporarily.

Slowing sales

The 65-year-old had been accused of receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of extra share option payments in 2013.

It was the latest twist in a saga plaguing the firm that centres on improper payments to top executives.

Following reports that Mr Saikawa was preparing to step down, the Nissan boss told reporters in Japan: "I'm keen to pass the torch to the next generation as soon as possible."

He has previously said he would resign in light of slowing sales and falling profits.

The sliding performance prompted the firm to unveil plans to slash 12,500 jobs around the world.

Mr Saikawa's troubles are the latest scandal to hit the Japanese carmaker, following the arrest of former chairman Carlos Ghosn in November.

Mr Ghosn, the architect of the Renault-Nissan alliance, faces accusations of financial misconduct and breach of trust. He denies any wrongdoing and has said his arrest in Japan was the result of a "plot and treason" against him.

The saga has cast doubt over the future of the Renault-Nissan alliance and the outlook for the company.

His long-running detention in Tokyo has also led to scrutiny of the Japanese legal system.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD vs. 2020 Ram 2500HD: Compare heavy-duty trucks

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Pickup trucks have been the best-selling vehicles in America for a long time, but heavy-duty trucks are king of the hill. They can tow more than 35,000 pounds, carry more than 7,000 pounds, and the redesigned 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 HD and 2020 Ram 2500/3500HD have the kind of creature comforts and safety conveniences to be fit for a king, too.

But which of these recently redesigned heavy-duty trucks is better?

Our editors have driven both and our ratings at The Car Connection are about as close as the 35,500-pound towing capacity in the Silverado and 35,100-pound towing capacity in the Ram: The 2020 Silverado HD has a 6.8 overall score and the 2020 Ram HD has a 6.5 overall score. Without safety ratings or fuel economy numbers (heavy-duty trucks don’t have to be tested for either under federal guidelines), the differences between these heavy hitters are even narrower.

Generally speaking, the Silverado HD is larger and the Ram HD is more sophisticated. Here’s a closer look.2019 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty

2019 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty

The Ram Heavy Duty is more personable on the outside with the six trims having distinct personalities, from the workmanlike plastic-and-steel trimmed Tradesman to the executive chrome-heavy Limited model. The off-road conquerer Power Wagon shares elements of the Rebel 1500 with its big grille and body cladding.

It’s hard to get past the big and bold vertical grille of the Silverado Heavy Duty. But that locomotive look with stacked headlights and either honeycomb or slotted grille expresses the overall bigness intended with the Silverado HD. It’s longer and wider with more rear leg room in crew cab models and the most voluminous bed in the class.

When it comes to the interior, however, the Ram far outclasses the Silverado, much like it does with the 1500s. 2019 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty

2019 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty

When it comes to power, the most powerful powertrains are more similar than they are different.

Standard on the Ram is a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque with an 8-speed transmission. That and cylinder deactivation should make it more efficient than the Silverado’s 6.6-liter V-8 that makes 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque with the 6-speed transmission.

On the diesel side of things, the Ram offers two tunes for its Cummins 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline-6 engine paired to a 6-speed transmission; the lesser one makes 850 lb-ft of torque and the upgraded diesel makes 1,000 lb-ft of torque.

That tops the only other engine offered in the Silverado, which is a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 with Allison 10-speed transmission making 910 lb-ft of torque. The heaviest of heavies can tow more than 35,000 pounds in certain configurations, but both the Ram and Silverado would require a commercial driver’s license to haul such loads.

The Ram HD lineup comes in three cab configurations with two bed lengths, while the Silverado has a third cab configuration for fleets only. The long bed is 8 feet in either, while the standard bed is almost half a foot longer in the Silverado over the Ram.

The Ram crew cab is plenty spacious, but the Silverado crew cab has more room in the cab and the bed. Ram offers a huge Mega Cab but only with the 6-foot-4 box. The Silverado bed also has innovative corner steps and side steps to easily access items in the deepest part of the bed near the cab. Even though it’s a tad shorter, the Silverado’s long bed is 5 inches wider and has nearly 9 cubic feet more of cargo volume.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

While the Silverado’s bed clearly beats the Ram, the interior features of the Ram equally beat the Silverado. The base trims are equally basic, but the volume and top trims are far more refined, with an optional 12.0-inch screen in the Ram Limited making the Silverado’s best 8.0-inch screen in High Country trim look silly. There are more standard features at the top level in the Ram heavy-duty trucks, and the seats are luxury-make comfortable.

But the Ram will cost you more, too, except at the base level, where the Tradesman is about $2,000 less than the Silverado Work Truck. Comparing the 4×4 gas crew cab with an 8-foot box at similar trim levels leads to an upcharge of about $5,000 more for the Ram Laramie over the Silverado LT, for example, and that margin is about the same for the range-topping Ram Limited over the Silverado High Country.

At nearly $70,000, the difference might seem negligible, but then there are all those options packages. You’ll pay a bit more for the Ram, but you also get a bit more in terms of tech, comfort, and convenience. But the Silverado has the edge where it matters most: function.

PSA boss compares no-deal Brexit to train crash

PSA boss compares no-deal Brexit to train crash

Image caption PSA bosses Carlos Tavares (left) and Michael Lohscheller warned of the effects of a no-deal Brexit

The head of the car group that owns Vauxhall has compared a no-deal Brexit to a head-on train crash.

PSA chief Carlos Tavares also said if a no-deal Brexit had serious consequences for the car group, there would be an ethical responsibility to protect employees outside the UK.

He said the firm would take "necessary decisions" regarding PSA's UK plants.

PSA also said it had halted investment at its UK factories while the outcome of Brexit remains unclear.

Mr Tavares, who was speaking at the Frankfurt motor show on Tuesday, has warned previously that Vauxhall plants at Ellesmere Port and Luton were under threat from Brexit.

'Jobs at stake'

Mr Tavares castigated politicians on both sides for failing to find a solution to Brexit. Sending two trains to crash into one another at speed in order to demonstrate their muscles and determination, he said, did not seem to be the best approach.

In June, PSA Group announced plans to build a new version of the Vauxhall Astra at its Ellesmere Port factory in Cheshire.

However, the company made it clear the investment would only take place if a suitable Brexit deal was reached.

Also at the Frankfurt show, another PSA executive, the head of the company's Opel and Vauxhall brands, Michael Lohscheller, said Vauxhall could not make investment decisions "without knowing what will happen" with Brexit.

Mr Lohscheller added: "Brexit could disrupt supply chains in Europe as well as Britain. There are jobs and investments at stake. Everybody needs to be aware of the responsibility."

Meanwhile, the chief financial officer of BMW, Nicolas Peter, said that leaving the EU without a deal could force the company to cut production at its Mini plant in Oxford.

The German carmaker plans to shut the plant on 31 October and 1 November to guard against potential disruption, but on Tuesday Nicolas Peter said this could stretch to several weeks if necessary.

"This could have a financial impact on our colleagues working in Oxford," Mr Peter said.

Meanwhile, Jaguar Land Rover's chief executive, Ralf Speth, warned that if the supply of parts into the UK was disrupted after Brexit, that could prevent production at its UK factories.

But he added that he could not comment on the overall effects of no-deal Brexit, because he simply did not have the information he needed.

Last week, UN trade body Unctad warned that a no-deal Brexit would cost UK businesses at least $16bn (£13bn) in lost sales due to the imposition of tariffs on exports.

By its calculations, UK car exporters would be the hardest hit, losing about $5bn in sales to the EU.

However, at the time the UK's Department for International Trade said it had signed continuity agreements with non-EU members, and that exporters would have access to the world's "fastest growing markets through new free trade agreements".

Video: Using different qualities in car wheels is very risky

The use of high-quality tires and low-quality tires in the same car could damage the vehicle and put passengers at serious risk.

The danger lies in the negative impact on the balance of the vehicle while driving in different climatic conditions.

Jonathan Benson, an expert in car safety issues, conducted a practical test on a race track with the help of a BMW M2, the test had three parts; the first part took place with the use of tires of different brands of high quality, and the result was that the car got out of control even under driving at low speeds.

The second part involved the use of high-quality tires in the front axles and mid- quality tires in the rear axles. At this part, the driver needed more time to pass the track, he also had the car out of control.

The third and final part of the experiment was the use of high-quality front axles with poor tires in the rear axles, and the driver completely failed to control the car on more than one occasion.

Causes Of Low Engine Oil Pressure

Regular maintenance of engine oil is the most important factor a long life engine. In addition to saving fuel and reducing annoying noise during rotation, neglecting to replace old oil with a new one may damage the engine completely.

Over time, oil is exposed to heat and pressure, which makes it lose much of its properties gradually and becomes less viscous and efficient; so the owner of the car is required to change the oil after a certain distance depending on the quality of oil.

There are many reasons for low engine oil pressure, we list here the important ones:

1. There is not enough oil in the automobile

Sign Of Low Oil Pressure This seems almost too easy, but it is actually the biggest reason why there are oil pressure problems. Car owners will often forget about the oil and forget to have it checked. This should be part of any tune-up or inspection of the car. Besides being the most common reason, this also happens to be the easiest oil pressure problem to fix.

2. Engine wear

Like blood flowing through veins, oil follows a system of passages through the engine. Oil will pass move through the crankshaft bearings and the cam bearings of the car. If the clearance has been made wider because of these parts wearing down, oil easily flows through and that will reduce the oil pressure.

3. Trouble with the oil pressure gauge

Auto manufacturers will install oil pressure gauges in the car so that a car owner will know about the oil pressure in real time. It can happen that the car owner does not know that the oil pressure is low because of problems with the oil pressure gauge. The only way to be sure this is happening is to do a mechanical oil pressure reading.

4. Trouble with the filter

The oil filters play an important role in maintaining oil pressure. Should the filter get clogged it will reduce the pressure. The pressure relief valve of an oil filter is there to make sure the pressure does not get too high. However, if the relief valve is damaged, then oil will pass more freely in the engine, and that will reduce pressure.

5. The Viscosity of the Oil

This is the thickness of the oil being used in the car. Oil that has a high viscosity is going to be thicker and doesn’t flow as fast as oil with a lower level. This can affect the oil pressure depending on the time of year. It is quite possible that high viscosity will not allow oil pressure to build rapidly. Fortunately, there’s some very easy ways to correct any problems with the oil pressure.

It is already been mentioned that lack of sufficient oil can cause a problem. That is why a car owner should take the opportunity now and then to check the oil level in the car. Oil filters need to be maintained on a routine basis.
